As reported by BlockFarsi: Oracle is releasing its blockchain-based software package for supply-chain management.

Per an announcement published on October 23 of this year, the software company Oracle has launched a suite of Software-as-a-Service applications built on the Oracle Blockchain Cloud Service. The new product appears to be aimed at improving traceability & transparency across supply chains.

Capabilities

Oracle is an American company founded in 1977 and currently one of the largest vendors in the business-software market. Per the Forbes Global 2000 (2018) list, Oracle — with total 2018 revenue of $39.8B — is the second-largest software developer.

The new product, named Oracle Blockchain Applications Cloud, consists of four applications:

Benefits

Like many blockchain-based supply-chain management tools, Oracle's blockchain applications claim to let customers track products through supply chains; increased transparency, faster product delivery and improved customer satisfaction are among the other claimed benefits. The product's periodic reports let users trace the provenance of product components and also cut paper waste (moving toward the paperless organization).

Oracle first announced its plans to launch SaaS products and ledger-based decentralized applications in May. At the time, Oracle was working with the government of Nigeria, which appears to use blockchain technology for recording customs & import documents.

The general availability of Oracle Blockchain Cloud Service was confirmed by Oracle in July. The product focuses on transaction efficiency and supply-chain authentication, using Hyperledger Fabric as its foundation. The launch follows a series of trials with banking, business and government customers.
